V-Day Clichés

14th of Feb;

the day for lovers.

Caught in a clichéd web

from which I’ll never recover.

Teddy bears for a tenner

sell out like a dash -

but their venomous hairs

impose a war waging rash.

Simpy songs

crawl through my brain -

trapped in a cheesy chorus

where ungoverned humming proceeds to pain

I can’t escape!

Potent perfume

nestles in my pores:

Inhaling foul fumes,

I choke on his kiss

as he ticks off his checklist

of romantic chores.

Forget the lovers,

It’s a day for the Money Machine,

to pawn the true love

of which we dream.

Those Greedy Beasts

they are so cruel,

to fix up a feast

for the materialist fool.

Roses are red

Violets are blue;

in one week

they’ll be dead -

and our love too.
