About Silver Hand

It all begins with an idea. In 2022, Ciara Purvis started the process of creating the Silver Hand. The Silver Hand is brought to you by Maynooth’s Publication and Literary society to give students a place for their voices, bringing you everything you want or need to know!

Our Aim

We hope to give students a space to find their own voice. Through workshops, the editing process and our bi-weekly writers’ rooms we are dedicated to working with you to discover what you have to say. We are creating a space for both literature and journalism pieces, so whether you wish to unwind at the end of a long day or get out there and find the latest scoops in Maynooth we are here for you.

Behind Our Name

Our name Silver Hand was chosen after much consideration. We wanted a name that would mean something and could become something long after its creation.

Silver Hand Journal was named after the old Irish story of Nuadha of the Silver Hand. It is a story of how Maynooth got its name, but also a powerful symbol of perseverance and adversity overcome. It reflects the hope that the Silver Hand will continue to persevere as a student publication for many years to come.

Meet Our Editors

Emma Daly - Editor-In-Chief

Emma is the Co-president of The Publication and Literary Society and Editor-in-Chief of the Silver Hand. She is currently a third-year Pharmachem student and is excited to be involved with the journal again this year. Her main focus is to provide a space for students to share their passions, opinions and advice, no matter what their degree.

She is extremely thankful to be working alongside two fantastic editors, Éabha and Hannah.

Don’t hesitate to reach out in person, through email (publicationliterary@mulife.ie) or on social media.

Éabha Puirséil - Editor

Éabha is co-president for Committee II and an editor for Silverhand. She is a first year postgraduate student in Aistriúchán agus Eagarthóireacht, and her undergrad in English and Irish is also from Maynooth. As one of the founders of PubLit, I'm hoping to keep pushing my literary agenda so that Maynooth is a campus full of vibrant work, accessible to and appreciated by all.

Hannah Kiernan - Editor

Hannah is vice-president and an editor for Silver Hand. She is a final year English & Nua-Ghaeilge student.

She accredits all of her journalistic desires to her ever-growing obsession with Gilmore Girls, and she hopes to create a dynamic and nurturing environment for all Silver Hand writers. She would love to see more creative literary pieces in the Silver Hand as well as an active music section!

She is also greatly looking forward to meeting more bookworms, who will undoubtedly add to her burgeoning TBR list!

Silver Hand Journal is a member of the Student Publication Association.
